The Latin Grammys will return to their home in Miami in 2024

MEXICO CITY (AP).- The 2024 Latin Grammys will return to Miami, where the Latin Recording Academy is based.

The 25th annual awards will air live from the Kaseya Center on November 14. Nominations will be announced on September 17.

Last year’s ceremony was held in Seville, Spain, the first time the awards were held outside the United States, as a result of a nearly 19 million euro agreement between the government of Andalusia and the Latin Academy of Sciences. Recording, as well as efforts to expand the global reach of the Latin Grammys.

“International growth is consistent with our mission,” Latin Recording Academy executive director Manuel Abud said at the time. “We have members from more than 40 countries, and we have always celebrated music in Spanish and Portuguese. Now, the only thing that is changing is that we are taking the celebration to another location, which will ultimately expand our global reach even further.”

The decision was met with some controversy, with some criticizing the show being moved to the European country that colonized much of Latin America.

However, the arrival of the awards to Spain aligned perfectly with the country’s efforts to further grow music tourism, which now hosts some of the biggest festivals.

The awards show regularly celebrates artists who perform in Spanish or Portuguese, without necessarily being Latin American or Latino from the United States. An example is Spanish singer Rosalía, who is Hispanic but not Latin American, and in 2022 she became the first woman to win album of the year twice at the awards show.

In a statement, Abud said the decision to move the show to Miami reflects the city’s position as “the epicenter of Latin entertainment.”

“We are grateful for the community support and enthusiasm we have received.”
