“The Last Wave” represents Morocco in Russia

Moroccan film director Mustafa Fermati revealed that his short film “The Last Wave” continues its tour of international and national festivals, after its brilliance during the past few months in a group of important events and its winning of numerous awards.

In a statement to Hespress, Fermati said that the film “The Last Wave” was chosen to represent Morocco in the official competition of the 20th Kazan International Film Festival in the Republic of Tatarstan, Russian Federation, where he confirmed that he received an official invitation from the organizers to attend this global cinematic event.

The same speaker added that “The Last Wave” is the only Moroccan work participating in this competition in the short films category, as it was able to outperform more than 814 films from 47 countries that were submitted to compete for the awards of this session.

According to its director, Mustafa Fermati, the film “The Last Wave” tells the story of a vulnerable family, where the hero, Ibrahim, an unemployed young man, tries to save his family from the clutches of poverty; but he ends up as a lifeless body washed up by the sea.

The Moroccan film director himself explained that “the entire film is based on what happened; but all of this is a vessel through which he expresses a philosophical vision regarding death,” noting that “the story carries within it his own view of death, and the question: Is it an end or a new beginning? And does it generate an incentive to continue for those who remain alive?”

It is worth mentioning that the short film “The Last Wave” previously participated in the 23rd National Film Festival in Tangier, and also participated in the Alexandria Film Festival for Mediterranean Countries, and won international and Arab awards in Kuwait, the Sultanate of Oman, Syria, Lebanon, and a prestigious festival in Italy, the United States of America, Iran, and Spain. This film also began its path to being crowned in Morocco, by winning the Best Screenplay Award during the last session of the Al Hoceima Film Festival, which witnessed the participation of many countries from different parts of the world.
