The Kremlin announced today that there was a political will to end the war in Ukraine both by Russia and the United States after the presidents of the two countries Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin were talking on the phone last night, Reuters reported.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said it was hasty to discuss live meetings between the two leaders.
Trump and Putin have been talking on the phone for more than an hour, and they both expressed a desire to end the conflict in Prokrani, which has been going on for almost three years.
“The previous US government was of the opinion that everything had to be done to continue the war. The current government, as we understand, is of the opinion that everything must be done to stop the war and to prevail peace. The position of the current government likes us much more and we are open to dialogue.”Peskov said.
Peskov said the two countries have agreed that an agreement on Ukraine can be reached through negotiations and that it should now be wait until the first specific results of their conversation are seen.
Asked if European countries would be represented in peace talks, he replied that it was still too early to discuss the exact format of discussions.
Asked if China could play the role of a mediator, Peskov called on reporters to be patience. He added that China is a strategic partner of Russia and Moscow highly appreciates relations between the two countries.
