The team “Valmiera Glass”/”Vidzeme Augstskola” lost to the Czech team “Brno” on Tuesday in the sixth match of the European Northern Basketball League (ENBL) season. Valmieri lost 74:90 (23:24, 16:25, 18:23, 17:18).
Seneka Naits stood out in the Valmiera team with 30 points scored and five rebounds, Haruns Zrno scored 13 points and Edmunds Elksnis collected ten points, seven rebounds and five errors. Terrell Brown-Soares scored 30 points and nine rebounds for the hosts, while Greg Lee had 20 points and seven rebounds.
Both teams had lost all five matches so far this season. In Group B, Brno’s team is seventh with one win in six matches, and Valmieri’s team is eighth out of eight teams with six defeats. 16 teams are participating in the third season of the ENBL, divided into two subgroups.
The top four teams from each group will qualify for the playoffs, where the teams will fight for a ticket to the Final Four tournament.
In the first season, in the eight-team tournament, after the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the Russian club “Enisey” from Krasnoyarsk and the Belarusian team “Borisfen” from Mogilev were excluded from the competition, two Latvian teams took part in the tournament – ” Liepāja” and “Valmiera Glass”/”ViA”, “Final Four” without qualification. The victory was won by the Polish team “Anwil” from Wloclawek, the Liepaja team took fifth place, and the Valmier team took sixth place in the main tournament.
Last season, in the 16-team tournament, Greater Poland Ostrava “Stal” became the winner, but the Valmierians, being the only Latvian team in the group, lost all seven matches.
