The King of Jordan warns against stopping support for UNRWA and the danger of invading Rafah

Amman – The King of Jordan, King Abdullah II, warned yesterday, Sunday, against stopping international support for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), and the danger of the invasion that Israel intends to launch on the city of Rafah, which is crowded with displaced people in the south of the Gaza Strip.

This came during his meeting with Bulgarian Foreign Minister Maria Gabriel, at Al-Husseiniya Palace in the capital, Amman, as part of an official visit of unannounced duration to the Kingdom, according to a statement from the Jordanian Royal Court, a copy of which Anadolu received.

According to the statement, the meeting comes “as part of the intensive efforts to reach an immediate ceasefire in Gaza.”

The two sides discussed “the dangerous developments in Gaza and the tragic humanitarian conditions it is witnessing that require urgent action by the international community to limit their aggravation,” according to the same source.

King Abdullah reiterated “the need to stop the war on Gaza, protect civilians, and ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid to the Strip in an adequate and sustainable manner.”

He also warned against stopping international support for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), and the danger of the Israeli attack on Rafah.

The King of Jordan stressed “the necessity of finding a political horizon to achieve a just and comprehensive peace based on the two-state solution (Palestinian and Israeli).”

Earlier, on Sunday, the Bulgarian minister held discussions with her Jordanian counterpart, Ayman Safadi, and expressed in joint press statements her country’s “concern” about the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip.

Since October 7, 2023, Israel has been waging a devastating war on the Gaza Strip, leaving tens of thousands of victims, most of them children and women, according to Palestinian and UN data, which led to Israel appearing before the International Court of Justice on charges of committing “genocide.”
