Holding the Italian flag during the opening of the Olympic Games in Paris should have been one of the highlights of a career for high-flyer Gianmarco Tamberi (32). But the festive event quickly turned sour. The successful athlete lost his wedding ring! Now came the apology to the wife.
So that’s called bad luck. Gianmarco Tamberi, the Italian high lifter and gold medalist from the Tokyo Olympics, was chosen as Italy’s flag bearer during the opening of this year’s Olympics. But he got so involved in his role that he lost his wedding ring in the process, which ended up at the bottom of the Seine!
Subsequently came an apology to his beloved wife Chiara Bontempi Tamberi, whom he married in September 2022. “I’m sorry, love. I’m really, really sorry.” he wrote on Instagram. According to Tamberi, this is due to the fact that he lost a lot of weight and also his unbridled enthusiasm for holding the flag of his country. But then he tried to find something nice in the inconvenience. “If it had to happen, I couldn’t have picked a better place. He will stay in the city of love forever.”
He described bad luck as poetic. He proposed to his wife that she also throw her ring into the river. “Then we’ll be together forever. At the same time, we’ll have another excuse to renew our vows and get married again.” he said according to bbc.com.

This pleased his significant other. “Only you can turn this into something romantic,” wrote his wife Chiara under the apologetic post. Tamberi waved the Italian flag on the boat alongside three-time Olympic medalist Arianna Errigo. The moment his ring fell into the river, he marked Tamberi as a few moments that lasted forever. But the important thing is that his wife does not get angry with him.
