Žagars signed a three-year contract with Istanbul “Fenerbahce” after a successful World Cup final in the ranks of the Latvian national team, but in mid-October, in the Vilnius “Wolves” team, to which he was loaned in this season, he tore the medial collateral ligaments of his left leg. The 23-year-old basketball player underwent surgery about a week after the injury in Istanbul and also began rehabilitation in Turkey shortly after.
“The first month passed right there in the hospital. I worked with the doctor, with the physiotherapist. Now I’m back in the gym together with my teammates and trainers. I work a lot with weights and continue the same rehabilitation process on the road. Now it’s much more intense. I started doing squats, little by little I put more load on the leg,” explained the basketball player.
He revealed that for a long time after the injury he did not know how serious the injury was and the true picture was only revealed during the operation.
“The most important thing is that the cruciate ligament of the main knee is intact, otherwise I could miss even a year. The internal lateral ligament was torn. When I woke up in the hospital after the operation and was told this, I was really happy, because such a recovery could have been much quicker”, he underlined.
