Japan’s Mazda is seeking the revival of its factory sports division. It presents itself with a new name and already attracts a couple of future models. The one above will especially interest rotary engine enthusiasts.
At this year’s Tokyo Motor Show, the domestic Mazda presented itself in style. Representatives of the Japanese brand spoke loudly about the future return of the sports model with an exotic internal combustion engine, based on the original design of Felix Wankel, and at the same time revealed a couple of concepts for petrol enthusiasts. And now there is a new novelty that will please all speed lovers and true fans of the brand.
Mazda is serious and preparing both models for series production. At least on the Japanese domestic market, both new products will soon appear, which Mazda will sell under the name of the sports brand Mazda Spirit Racing. And if you missed which models these are, let’s take a look at them. They are called Mazda Spirit Racing RS and Spirit Racing 3.
The first of these is the legendary Mazda MX-5 roadster “on steroids”. The new concept is based on the latest evolution of the ND3 and features Recaro sports seats with racing seat belts. A striking new feature is the significantly larger exhaust tip or the powerful Brembo disc brakes.
Along with the new Miata, an improved Mazda 3 based on factory modifications in the same style was presented at the auto show, while we cannot overlook a more aerodynamic bodykit. Both future sports models are presented simultaneously with a new livery and lightweight Rays wheels with Bridgestone Potenza tyres.
The new Mazda Racing Spirit brand will represent the rebirth of the iconic Mazdaspeed division and will specialize in sports models. The highlight of the future offering should be the promised sports car with Wankel, the development of which has been speculated for many years. We’re curious to know if we’ll actually see it.
