Participants from the communities of Atacama and Coquimbo sent creative and emotional stories about the Humboldt Archipelago and its surroundings for the “Humboldt Archipelago in 110 Words” Literary Contest.
Children, young people and adults surprised the jury with their literary creations, demonstrating that our country is the birthplace of great writers.
Nancy Duman, representative of Sphenisco Chile, was very pleased with the turnout of the contest, stating that “for Sphenisco it is very satisfying to see the great participation that the first version of the literary contest had.”
“It is also exciting and significant that children, young people and adults from different places in the Atacama and Coquimbo regions have taken the time to connect with the Archipelago and let their imaginations run wild.”
She added that “In fact, other regions have asked us to expand the scope so they can participate, and we have even received emails from Spain and Brazil. Now all that remains is to find out who the winners of each category are.”
The jury is composed of Elena Jiménez, representative of Secreduc and regional coordinator of the National Reading and Book Plan; Gabriel Canihuante, journalist and writer from the Coquimbo Region; Alicia Tapia, poet and artisan from Freirina, Atacama Region; José Aguilera, state professor of History and Geography, writer from La Higuera and Héctor Cossio, general editor of El Mostrador. They will be in charge of deciding who will obtain the first, second and third places in each category.
The names of the participants who obtained a place, as well as the honorable mentions, will be announced during the third week of July.
The organization is very pleased with this large participation, especially because of the awareness that exists about the care and importance of the Humboldt Archipelago.
