The House of Representatives calls on the Central Bank to submit a report on the current reserves

Benghazi, March 18, 2024 (Al-Anbaa Libya) – The House of Representatives held its session today, Monday, headed by the First Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Fawzi Al-Nuwairi, and in the presence of the Second Deputy Speaker of the House, Mesbah Douma. The session discussed the request of the Governor of the Central Bank of Libya from the Speaker of the House, to impose a fee (tax) on… The official exchange rate is 27%.

House of Representatives spokesman Abdullah Belhaq stated that after discussion and deliberation, the members of the House of Representatives agreed on a number of steps, the first of which is to address the Governor of the Central Bank of Libya regarding consultation with the Presidency of the House of Representatives, in accordance with the laws in force to fill vacancies in the membership of the bank’s Board of Directors.

The representatives also agreed to submit a report on the value of the reserves at the Central Bank of Libya to date, and to submit a report on the revenues from selling foreign exchange since the price changed.

The representatives agreed to send a copy of the statement of assets and liabilities to the Central Bank, submit financial and economic reports on the bank’s conditions, send the approved financial statements to the Council, and summon the Planning, Finance and General Budget Committee for the next session to provide a briefing to the Council.

The members of the House of Representatives also decided to form a technical committee from the heads of the specific committees in the House (Finance – Economy – Oversight), and experts headed by the Second Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, to follow up on the extent of the impact of the change in the exchange rate on the citizen’s income, and thus the session was suspended.
