What happened Tuesday evening in the rural commune of Anjepy, Manjakandriana district, shows that insecurity is not yet under control in rural areas. At around 10:30 p.m. that evening, the Anjepy gendarmerie outpost received a telephone call from the fokontany chief reporting an armed attack in the village of Ikoraba, within his jurisdiction. The home of an individual was targeted by five bandits around 9 p.m. In response, three gendarmes quickly went to the scene to intervene and rescue the victims, while alerting surrounding law enforcement units to cordon off the perimeter. According to the gendarmes’ testimony, five bandits, armed with two homemade rifles, forced their way into the house. Once inside, they brandished their weapons to intimidate everyone present. Taken by surprise, they had to submit to the attackers who stole 570,000 ariary, three cell phones and gold jewelry. After their crime, which lasted only a few minutes, the criminals fled towards Ampizarantany, an area bordering the Anjepy fokontany. Despite a pursuit operation carried out by the police in collaboration with the fokonolona, no suspect was apprehended until yesterday.
