The hijackers of “Rouen” have surrendered. The crew has been released – 2024-03-17 04:27:42

All the Somali pirates on board the hijacked Ruen have surrendered and the 17-member crew has been evacuated, Reuters reported, citing military officials in the region.

The Bulgarian cargo ship “Rouen”, sailing under the Maltese flag, was hijacked in December.

There are also 7 Bulgarians in the crew.

It was earlier reported that the vessel was intercepted by an Indian warship, on which the pirates opened fire.

Somali pirates who seized the Rouen in December may have used it to hijack a Bangladeshi-flagged cargo ship seized off the coast of Somalia this week, EU navies said on Thursday.

It was earlier reported that the Indian Navy had prevented the use of the Bulgarian-owned ship “Rouen” in a pirate raid.

At the same time, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that it is actively engaged in the case of the kidnapped Bulgarian citizens from the crew of the Galaxy Leader ship hijacked in the Red Sea on November 19, 2023.

“Systematic and coordinated efforts are being made by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the foreign representations of the Republic of Bulgaria in the region and all competent Bulgarian institutions with the aim of the timely release of the two Bulgarian sailors and their successful return to Bulgaria.”
