The Gunners did well in the first part of the fight, in the fifth minute Bukayo Sak was in the right place and at the right time and sent the ball into the goal which was saved by former Arsenal goalkeeper Bernt Leno.
Just before the half hour mark, Fulham responded, Mexican Raul Jimenez using a filigree cross from Scotsman Tom Kearney. Arsenal came close to regaining the upper hand, but the ball launched by Brazilian Gabriel Martinelli flew past the goal post.
In the second half the Arsenal players showed an increasingly boring performance on the pitch. In the 60th minute, Jamaican Bobby de Cordova-Reid gave Fulham the lead. The scorer of the first goal, Saka, wasted a brilliant opportunity to regain parity shortly afterwards.
