Guinea U-23 successfully defeated the Indonesian U-23 National Team 1-0 in the playoff round at the 2024 Paris Olympics. The match was held at the Stade Pierre Pibarot, Clairefontaine-en-Yvelines, France on Thursday (9/5/2024) evening WIB.
The only goal for Syli National – the nickname of Guinea U-23 – was recorded by Ilaix Moriba (29′ (P)). This victory ensures that Guinea U-23 will qualify for the main round of football at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
After the match, the Media Guinea Joueurs Guineens Instagram account was attacked by racist comments. These various comments with emoticons and racist undertones could not be stopped, so Joueurs Guineens had to close the comments column.
“Facing a large flood of racist insults and monkey emojis from Indonesian fans, JGN (Joueurs Guineens) was forced to disable comments on the Instagram page,” wrote the official X Joueurs Guineens account (@Joueurs_GN), quoted on Friday (10/5/2024).
The Guinean media deeply regrets that the flood of racist comments continues to occur. Joueurs Guineens emphasized that they would continue to fight against these racist comments in their own way.
“Racism is taking up more and more space in football, which is a sport that should unite us, we will not stop fighting it!,” emphasized Joueurs Guineens.
In another upload, Joueurs Guineens also gave examples of racist comments addressed to the U-23 Guinea National Team. Of course, this is very unfortunate considering the strong suspicion that these racist comments came from Indonesian football fans.
“Whatever you do, we are at the Olympics. It’s not your racist comments that will get you there. “Since the match ended, Indonesian people have been coming to our posts with racist messages,” wrote Joueurs Guineens.
Meanwhile, PSSI regrets the racist remarks towards the Guinean players. PSSI Executive Committee (Exco) member Arya Mahendra Sinulingga said that the perpetrators of racist speech were not true supporters.
“Don’t tarnish the struggle of the Indonesian U-23 team with racist remarks towards opposing players,” said Arya.
