The gruesome cause of death of the victims was revealed during the autopsy

The causes of death of four victims of the superyacht that sank off the coast of Sicily in Italy have become known, Liter.kz reports with reference to Dailymail.

The four victims – Morgan Stanley International Chairman Jonathan Bloomer, 70, his wife Judy, and New York lawyer Chris Morvillo and his partner Neda – were found to be uninjured, but were in the water on the sunken yacht.

The medical examiner also ruled out drowning as no water was found in the victims’ lungs. This raises the alarming possibility that the men were conscious when the yacht sank and were floating for some time in the air pockets that formed. But when the oxygen ran out and carbon dioxide filled the air pockets instead, the unfortunate men suffocated and died.

How long they could have remained alive and waited for help has not yet been determined.

Let us recall that on August 19, seven people drowned as a result of the sinking of the 56-meter yacht Bayesian, 15 survived. The vessel was moored near the coast of Sicily in the Mediterranean Sea. The stormy weather capsized the yacht.

The guests gathered on the yacht at the invitation of 59-year-old tech magnate Mike Lynch, who decided to celebrate his recent acquittal in a high-profile fraud case in the United States.

The guests were people of his circle – 12 super-rich people, which is why the disaster gained worldwide resonance.

Lynch himself died in the yacht accident. His 18-year-old daughter Hannah drowned with him. Their bodies, along with that of chef Recalno Thomas, will be autopsied on Friday, September 6.

All the victims of the disaster were passengers, with the exception of the yacht’s chef, Recaldo Thomas. His body, found in the sea near the site of the Bayesian’s sinking, was the first to be discovered.

The rest of the victims – with the exception of Hannah, who was found in her cabin – were in another room.

Three crew members are under investigation for causing the crash and manslaughter.

Chief prosecutor Ambrogio Cartosio, who is leading the investigation, said his team would look into all possible elements of responsibility, including the captain, crew, those responsible for oversight and the yacht’s manufacturer.
