The ‘Great Protest for Truth’ in Venezuela and several countries

This Saturday, August 17, various demonstrations took place around the world in support of the “Great Protest for Truth” to demand a prompt resolution to the allegations of fraud in the Venezuelan presidential elections.

The Venezuelan opposition is demanding that the victory of its candidate Edmundo González Urrutia be respected, and has called for demonstrations against the re-election of Nicolás Maduro. Demonstrations had been called in more than 300 cities, including Caracas, led by opposition leader María Corina Machado.

Caracas trembles; Maduro’s departure is demanded

Caracas, the Venezuelan capital, was one of the places where most protesters gathered, carrying flags, banners and copies of voting records, demanding that Urrutia be recognized as the president-elect.

María Corina Machado arrived at the scene, having reappeared in public after two weeks of being kept under guard, after Nicolás Maduro accused her of an attempted coup d’état.
