The government is buying oil, pulses, sugar and wheat worth Tk 506 crore 93 lakh 75 thousand from the local and international markets. Out of this 153 crore 97 lakh 25 thousand wheat is being bought. Soybean oil is being bought for 77 crore 98 lakh 50 thousand taka. And sugar worth Tk 107 crore 60 lakh and lentil worth Tk 167 crore 38 lakh will be bought.
The Cabinet Committee on Public Procurement has approved the purchase of wheat, oil, pulses and sugar. On Thursday (March 14), Finance Minister Abul Hasan Mahmud Ali chaired the meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Government Procurement. This approval was given in that meeting. He said, following the proposal of the Ministry of Food, the proposal of importing 50 thousand metric tons of wheat from United Arab Emirates (UAE) company Greenflower DMCC was approved by calling international open tender.
This wheat will be imported to consolidate food grain safety stock in FY 2023-24. The price of wheat per metric ton has been fixed at 279.95 USD. As a result, the total cost of wheat import will be 1 crore 39 lakh 97 thousand 500 dollars. Its amount in Bangladesh currency is 153 crore 97 lakh 25 thousand taka. The price of wheat per kg will be 30 taka 79 paisa.
In the meeting, the Ministry of Commerce brought two proposals to buy lentils and two separate proposals to buy soybeans and sugar. All four proposals have been approved by the Cabinet Committee on Public Procurement.
In this, 6,000 metric tons of lentils for 62 crore 94 lakh taka have been approved to be bought locally in the open tender system in the fiscal year 2023-24. These lentils will be purchased from Roy Agro Food Products Limited, Barguna. The price of lentil per kg will be 104 taka 90 paisa.
In view of another proposal of the Ministry of Commerce, approval was given to buy 10 thousand metric tons of lentils for Tk 104 crore 44 lakhs. Out of this, 6 thousand tons of lentils will be purchased from Easy General Trading and 4 thousand tons from Nabil Naba Food Limited. The price per kg will be 104 taka 44 paisa. These lentils will be purchased for sale at subsidized prices to 1 crore families with TCB family cards.
In the meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Government Procurement, it has been proposed to buy 8 thousand metric tons of sugar at Tk 107.60 million through direct purchase method to sell to 1 crore families with TCB family card at subsidized price. This sugar will be purchased from S Alam S Alam Refined Sugar Industries at the rate of 134 taka 50 paisa. Commerce Ministry came up with the proposal to buy this sugar for TCB.
In view of another proposal of the Ministry of Commerce, in the fiscal year 2023-24, approval has been given to buy 50 lakh liters of soybean oil for 77 crore 98 lakh 50 thousand taka in open re-tendering system locally. Soybean oil will be purchased from Sonargaon Seeds Crushing Mills Limited, Dhaka. This soybean oil will also be purchased for sale at a subsidized price to 1 crore family card holders of TCB.
