The government proposes increases in 2025 for the Elderly Pension and Benito Juárez Scholarships

MEXICO CITY (apro).- The Ministry of Finance and Public Credit (SHCP) delivered to the Chamber of Deputies the 2025 Pre-Criteria where it foresees a GDP of 2.5%, lower than the estimate in 2024 of 3 percent, as well as an increase in social programs of the federal government.

According to the Pre-Criteria 2025 document sent by the SHCP to the Congress of the Union, the federal government estimates that according to the forecasts on the economy and public finances towards the end of 2024, the Mexican economy is estimated to grow from 2.0% to 3.0%. percent.

This growth will be driven by strong domestic demand, a dynamic labor market, and private consumption and investment will continue to close the gap on their pre-pandemic trend.

INCREASE IN PRIORITY SUPPORT

The SHCP also estimates an increase in the government’s priority programs, since they affirm that social spending will continue to increase, with increasing coverage for the benefit of the most vulnerable population.

For example, they plan to increase the Universal Scholarship for Benito Juárez Higher Secondary Education Students from 39,366 million pesos approved in 2024 to 40,882 million pesos; the Young People Writing the Future program from 11,701 million pesos to 12,151 million pesos.

In addition to the Youth Building the Future program from 24,204 million pesos to 25,136 million pesos; as well as the Pension for the Welfare of the Elderly from 465 thousand 48 million pesos to 482 thousand 953 million pesos.

SHCP FORECASTS A LOWER IN OIL CONSUMPTION

In the SHCP report, the federal agency estimates lower demand for oil given the slowdown in global demand, mainly due to China.

The Treasury foresees lower oil revenues, going from 1.10 trillion pesos in 2024 to only 990.3 billion pesos.

The federal agency foresees a drop in the price of a barrel from 71.3 dollars to 58.4 dollars on average in 2025, according to the methodology established by Law in article 31 of the LFPRH and 15 of its Regulations.

BUDGET REVENUES WILL INCREASE IN 2025

According to the SHCP estimate, budget revenues will be greater than 163 billion pesos in 2025 compared to the amount expected in 2024.

This is due to higher tax revenues of 170 billion pesos, due to greater economic activity and the effect of permanent gains due to collection efficiency and the greater base of comparison. In addition to higher non-tax income of 4 billion pesos.

RECONSTRUCTION OF ACAPULCO

In the report, the SHCP estimated that in 2025 the construction of the main works devastated in Acapulco, Guerrero, after the passage of Hurricane “Otis” will be completed, which is why it expects an increase in national and international tourism, which will allow said entity federation will once again position itself among the states with the largest tourist destination.

In addition, it will benefit the surrounding areas by earning foreign currency and developing the construction sector and transportation, leisure and recreational services.
