The government is buying soybean oil at Tk 164 per liter and sugar at Tk 95 per kg –

The government has decided to purchase 120,000 liters of soybean oil and 12,500 metric tons of refined sugar from the United Arab Emirates and Turkey in an international open tender process. Soybean oil will be bought at Tk 164 21 paise per kg and sugar at Tk 94 94 paise per kg. The total cost will be 237 crore 13 lakh 19 thousand 200 taka.

On Wednesday (November 12) in the conference room of the Cabinet Department, Finance Advisor Dr. The meeting of the Advisory Council Committee on Government Procurement held under the chairmanship of Salahuddin Ahmed approved the purchase of oil and sugar.

According to the sources of the meeting, in view of the proposal of the Ministry of Commerce, the Advisory Council Committee has approved the proposal to purchase 12 thousand 500 metric tons of refined sugar through open tender (international) system.

It is known that three bids were submitted when the international open tender system was called for the purchase of 12 thousand 500 metric tons of sugar to be sold at subsidized price to 1 crore family card holders of TCB. All three tenders are considered technically and financially responsive.

After all the bidding processes, it was decided to buy 12 thousand 500 metric tons of sugar from Begalta Danishmanlik Hizmetleri AS of Istanbul, Turkey, the lowest bidder recommended by TEC at Tk 94.942 per kg. The total cost will be 78 crore 25 lakh 65 thousand taka.

According to the relevant sources, the target of buying sugar in the current financial year 2025-26 has been fixed at 1 lakh 15 thousand metric tons. So far the purchase contract has been executed for 44 thousand metric tons.

In view of another proposal of the Ministry of Commerce in the meeting, the Advisory Council Committee has approved the purchase of 1 lakh 20 thousand liters of soybean oil through international open tender system.

It is learned that two bids were submitted when the international open tender system was called for the purchase of 1 crore 2 million liters of soybean oil to be sold at subsidized prices to 1 crore families with TCB family cards. Both the tenders are financially and technically responsive.

After all the bidding processes, it was decided to purchase 12.2 million liters of soybean oil from Credentone FZCO of the United Arab Emirates, the responsive lowest bidder recommended by TEC at USD 1.087 per liter. The total cost will be 1 crore 3 million 44 thousand dollars. Its amount in Bangladesh currency is 158 crore 87 lakh 59 thousand 200 taka. The price of soybean oil per liter is 164 taka 21 paisa.
