Today, Tuesday in Geneva, the President of the Human Rights Council, Omar Zniber, opened the work of the 56th session of the Council.
At the opening of the session, which continues until next July 12, Zniber, President of the Council and Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Morocco in Geneva, presented the various procedural mechanisms that frame the work of the UN body.
During the session, the annual report of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Türk, was presented, which painted a bleak picture of the human rights situation across the world, especially in light of the escalation of armed conflicts.
It is noteworthy that the Human Rights Council is an intergovernmental body affiliated with the United Nations system, and consists of 47 countries responsible for promoting and protecting all human rights throughout the world.
The Council has the authority to discuss all thematic human rights topics and situations that require its attention throughout the year, and it holds its meetings at the United Nations Office in Geneva.
