Amanda Nguyen, social entrepreneur and human rights activist, will become the first woman of Vietnamese descent in space

Theo Nextshark, Amanda Nguyen will fly into space in the upcoming launch of the Blue Origin aerospace company’s New Shepard rocket. Her trip is part of the “Citizen Astronaut” program of Space for Humanity, a non-profit organization based in Denver (Colorado, USA).

This program aims to “empowering every citizen astronaut to tackle global challenges with a broader perspective”.

Mr. Antonio Peronace, CEO of Space for Humanity, praised Amanda Nguyen’s upcoming trip as a symbol of “strength, passion and excellence”, in line with the organization’s mission to democratize the space sector and promote global connectivity.

“Space for Humanity could not be more proud to partner and support Amanda Nguyen’s journey into space. Her novel space journey will become a shining example for many others,” Mr. Peronace said.

Amanda Nguyen, 32 years old, graduated from Harvard University and interned at the US Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) in 2013. After that, she worked at the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics.

In 2014, Amanda Nguyen founded Rise, a non-governmental civil rights organization dedicated to protecting the civil rights of victims of sexual assault and rape.

Amanda Nguyen herself was also a victim of sexual assault during college. In her fight to protect herself, she helped draft the Sexual Assault Victims Bill of Rights, which established statutory rights in federal law for survivors. survived sexual assault and rape.

The bill was signed into law by former US President Barack Obama in 2016.

Amanda Nguyen was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize in 2019 and was awarded by the magazine Time honored as Woman of the Year 2022.
