The first official trial of Azerbaijan’s claim was held in the Hague Peace Palace under the “Bern Convention for the Protection of European Wildlife and Natural Habitats” within the framework of interstate arbitration.

It was reported that on January 18, 2023, the first arbitration process was initiated by Azerbaijan on the basis of the large amount of evidence available on the widespread destruction of the environment caused by Armenia during its 30-year illegal occupation of the territories of Azerbaijan.
“In 2020, after the liberation of its territories, Azerbaijan revealed terrible evidence of Armenia’s destruction of the environment and failure to protect it. These steps of Armenia caused serious damage to the natural habitat and species of our territories, led to the depletion of natural resources, and also destroyed the existing biodiversity. Activities related to ecologically irresponsible and illegal construction and mining activities in forest areas, including the nature reserves protected by Armenia in 1991, as well as continuous cutting and pollution of trees in Azerbaijan 500 has put more than 100 species of living nature at risk”, – it was stated in the information.
