How to collect rewards

Anyone who wins one of the Italian Lottery prizes will have 180 days to collect it. To collect it you have to
– present the original and intact coupon at the branches of Banca Intesa Sanpaolo, or
– present the coupon (always intact and in original) to the National Lotteries Prize Offices in viale del Campo Boario, 56/D, in Rome, or
– send the winning ticket by post – however assuming the risk that it may be lost -: in this case a registered letter with return receipt is required, indicating the applicant’s personal details, address and the requested payment method (bank draft, bank transfer or post office).

What about taxes?

Winnings from the Italian Lottery are not subject to taxation. “No form of withholding or levy will apply to winnings of any amount from the Italian Lottery – explains the Customs and Monopolies Agency – the sums corresponding to the winning tickets will be credited in full”.

Who won last year?

Last year it was a tobacco shop in Bologna that celebrated, while Lazio confirmed itself as the luckiest region with three of the five first category prizes, i.e. those with six figures.

How many tickets were sold, and where?

This year, 10 percent more tickets were sold than in 2022: 6.7 million, one for every 10 inhabitants. According to data released by the Customs and Monopolies Agency, Lombardy and Lazio are the two regions where the most were sold, ahead of Campania. Rome is the “leading” province: 968,090 “detached” coupons. The province of Milan, second, stops at 443,210; that of Naples at 330,420.

Unclaimed prizes

The Italian Lottery also brings with it an unusual record, that of unclaimed prizes. In the last twenty years, from 2002 onwards, as reported by Agipronews, a total of almost 31 million euros have fallen into oblivion. The most striking case dates back to 2008, when even the first prize of 5 million was not claimed. The last episode dates back to 2016, with the 2 million euro win never claimed.

The extraction mechanism

The draw took place during «Affari Tuoi – Speciale Lotteria Italia», a special episode hosted by Amadeus at the Teatro delle Vittorie, in Rome. Many guests of this “very rich episode”, as Amadeus himself defined it at the beginning of the evening: Maria Chiara Giannetta (who takes part in the game for Liguria), Francesco Paolantoni (Tuscany), Lillo (Piedmont); and then Stefano Accorsi, Sergio Friscia, Pietro Castellitto and Benedetta Porcaroli, Iva Zanicchi, Pietro Castellitto and Paolo Fox.

How the game worked

At the end of the “traditional” game of Affari Tui, the Lottery game began, which had the VIP guests as protagonists.

During the game, based on the ability of the various guests to answer questions about the Italian regions, each of them was assigned 5 coupons, which were hidden in sealed containers associated with a lucky symbol.

Iva Zanicchi was associated with the 5 million euro ticket.

The 2.5 million euro ticket was associated with Maria Chiara Giannetta.

Lillo was awarded the third prize, worth 2 million euros.

Francesco Paolantoni was awarded the fourth prize, worth 1.5 million.

The fifth goes to Stefano Accorsi, worth 1 million.
