DE BILT – The KNMI has issued a code yellow for much of the country in relation to the first storm of 2024. This storm has been given the name Henk. The weather warning applies in Zeeland, South and North Holland, Friesland, Groningen, Utrecht, Flevoland, Drenthe and Overijssel. In most of these provinces the code yellow lasts from 8pm to 4am.

According to the KNMI, wind speeds can reach up to 110 kilometers per hour in the northern coastal area. Traffic and outdoor activities may be affected by strong winds.

This is the second winter storm of this season, after storm Pia, which caused numerous floods at the end of December. As a result of Pia, insurers have received almost 2,000 damage reports.

Tuesday will still be a rainy day. During the morning, an area of ​​rain will reach our country from the south-west. There will already be a moderate to quite strong wind. In the afternoon the weather will be rainy with widespread rain. “The temperature rises up to 10-13 degrees, which makes it very mild for this time of year. At the beginning of January the average temperature is 6 degrees,” says meteorologist Jaco van Wezel.

At the beginning of the evening it rains again in the north and east. The rainy area disappears quickly and then dry periods and showers occur. The temperature hardly drops. The weather is stormy with a fairly strong and gusty southwest wind.

Strong gusts of wind

“In the coastal provinces and Flevoland the wind is strong to strong and strong gusts of 75 to 90 km/h may occur. The wind at the sea and around the IJsselmeer is strong to stormy,” warns Van Wezel.

Temporary thunderstorms and very strong wind gusts between 100 and 115 km/h may occur in the late evening and first half of the night in the northwestern coastal area and the Wadden. Later in the night the wind decreases somewhat.

It will also rain on Wednesday, followed by a slightly drier Thursday. Friday is the last mild day of the weekend for now and we are dealing with a north-east wind that brings significantly colder air.
