Even in the past decade, such a festive time has not come in the entertainment arena, as it has come this time. All the events of Eid and Pahela Baisakh were fulfilled with movies, plays and songs. Maximum 11 movies release, hundreds of special dramas and TV arrangements like Toitumbur.
At such a festive time, a shadow of sadness fell around an Eid play. The name is ‘Conversion’. One of the most successful producers of the time Rafat Majumdar Rinku has made this drama special. Farhan Ahmed Jovan played the lead role in Neehar Ahmed’s screenplay. This play, which has just been released on YouTube, has been going viral on the internet since the morning of April 16. There are at least hundreds of posts and lakhs of responses against the play throughout the day. There have also been calls for a boycott against its actor Jovan and sponsor Walton.
Among them, ‘Transformation’ has been removed from YouTube. The Walton authorities expressed regret and apologized.
Question, why this negative campaign or angry general audience against the play? What’s in it! The story basically revolves around a young painter. Who lost family members in a train accident in his childhood. As a result, he did not know who his parents were or what religion they belonged to. He grew up in a children’s ashram. The painter grew up. Got fame too. Among them, Dhani’s Dulali fell in love with his paintings. The painter was proposed to the family for marriage. But he clarified that it is not possible with him. Then it was revealed through his doctor that he was actually suffering from a rare hormonal complication. She looks like a man but mentally she is a woman.
This is the story of the play ‘Rupantar’ in bold. Viewers complain that the people concerned are promoting ‘transgender culture’ in the country through this play. Most of the viewers are boycotting Jovan and Walton by publishing the poster of the play on social handles.
In such a situation, the stakeholders are very speechless. Producer Rafat Majumdar Rinku told Bangla Tribune, ‘I have nothing to say. Because, I did not do this play to implement any agenda. I tried to tell the story of a single man. The person who is suffering from hormonal complications. It is a kind of physical complication, in which none of us have a hand. I have not told any successful relationship story through the play. I tried to show the story of a man becoming increasingly lonely due to hormonal reasons. But many people are giving wrong interpretation to that matter. I am sincerely sorry and disappointed for this. If we don’t accept this simple story, how can we tell a new story?’
The producer said, the drama ‘Rupantar’ was released on YouTube on April 15 at 7 pm. It was taken down on the morning of April 16 after receiving objections from several visitors at night. But even that did not save. A large section of critics are downloading the same play and uploading it to numerous YouTube channels. They are again protesting such drama production and propaganda! Saying to watch the drama to boycott those concerned.
Those concerned with ‘Rupantar’ said that even after the drama was taken down, they received death threats and thousands of offensive comments throughout the day. It is quite painful and scary for them.
