Ahead of schedule, travelers will be able to use the ferry between Central Station and Buiksloterweg in Noord again this afternoon. The valve between the pier and the quay collapsed yesterday after the chains to which it is attached broke. As a result, the ferry in question was removed from the schedule.
The ferry will go into service this afternoon at 4pm, councilor Melanie van der Horst reports to city councilors in Stopera. This is much faster than the two or three days that the GVB talked about yesterday.
The fact that the ferry is being put back into service is good news for many travellers. Yesterday it was announced that the North/South line will probably not be able to run between the Center and the North until Saturday, because the tunnel tube has filled with water due to a broken water pipe.
Added to this is the news that GVB had to immediately take five of the fourteen ferries out of service due to technical problems.
Van der Horst also said during the meeting that the chains broke because a ferry set sail “by mistake.”
