The father of Estonian freestyle skier, Olympian Kelly Sildara, is accused of illegal use of his daughter’s funds

The prosecutor in charge of the case, Leleta Kivioja, stressed that until the child reaches the age of majority, the parent is the legal representative and guardian of the child, however this does not mean that you can manage your child’s assets as if they belonged to the parent. “Instead, assets belonging to the child must be kept separately and can only be used for the child’s needs, asset management or other ongoing expenses related to the child,” he said, recalling that parents have the responsibility to support the child. child.

What was discovered during the preliminary investigation shows that Tenis Sildaru, as a guardian of a minor, repeatedly withdrew cash from his daughter’s payment account and made transfers to himself and third parties. The prosecutor’s office is not convinced that the funds were used for the needs of Sildar’s daughter.

The upcoming court case will determine whether Tenis Sildaru’s dealings with the child’s assets were in her daughter’s best interests.

Initially, Tenis Sildaru was also suspected of physical violence and threats.

“The investigation did not confirm any specific episode of violence or threat that could serve as a basis for filing charges, therefore the prosecutor’s office closed the criminal case,” explained the prosecutor.

The Sildar family controversy came to light in the spring of 2020, when it became known that the assets Kelly Sildar had earned over the years were to be divided by the court. On one side there was Tenis Sildaru and her son Henry, and on the other there was Kelly Sildaru and her mother Lillian. In 2021, Kelly Sildaru told Estonian public broadcaster that she had been a victim of domestic violence for several years and that her abusive father had used her as a “cash cow”.
