The famous Brazilian musician Sérgio Mendes has died

Mendes died surrounded by loved ones Thursday at his home in Los Angeles, according to a family statement. “In recent months, his health has been affected by the long-term effects of covid-19,” the family said.

Mendés was born in 1941 and began his musical career in the 1950s in the clubs of Rio de Janeiro. However, the song Mas que nada brought him fame in the 1960s. His recordings in the 1970s and 1980s, as well as the Timeless album, were also successful when he performed concerts with other musicians of other genres. Over his long career, he has received one Grammy Award, two Latin Grammy Awards, and one Academy Award nomination for Best Original Motion Picture Song. He lived with his singer wife Gracinha Leporace for over 50 years.
