The failure of the activists and the unionists to agree on “chairing the Justice Committee” embarrasses the parliamentary groups

The parliamentary teams and their political parties found themselves facing great embarrassment due to the failure of the Socialist Union of Popular Forces and the Popular Movement parties to reach a consensual solution regarding the Justice, Legislation and Human Rights Committee in the House of Representatives, which each group insists on chairing in the second half of the current legislative term, as these teams and parties hoped for themselves. The two aforementioned opposition groups reached a consensus to relieve them of embarrassment during voting in next Monday’s session.

According to data obtained by the newspaper, the “Al-Warda” and “Sunbula” parties have not yet reached a consensus regarding the presidency of the Justice, Legislation and Human Rights Committee, while the solution will remain to resort to voting to resolve the matter.

More than one source from the opposition and majority groups, who were contacted by the Hespress electronic newspaper, expressed their hope of “reaching an agreement on a single opposition candidate to head the aforementioned committee,” before the date of the session expected at the beginning of next week.

In this context, Omar Hujaira, head of the Independent Unity and Equality Team, said in response to a question from Hespress about the candidate that his team would support if resorting to voting: “We hoped that the opposition would find a consensual solution to resolve the problem among the concerned groups, and since the situation is such that there may be elections.” To conclude, we have not discussed the matter yet.”

Hujaira added: “We always hope that the opposition teams will find a consensual solution until the session is held,” pointing out that the independence team for unity and equality will take the appropriate decision at the appropriate time without revealing whether the party will support the “Sunbula” or “Al-Warda” candidate.

For his part, a leader in the Authenticity and Modernity Team in the House of Representatives considered that his party “has not yet decided whether its representatives will vote for the activist team’s candidate or the socialist team’s candidate,” expressing his hope to find “a consensual solution between the two parties to avoid embarrassment.”

Hespress tried to poll the opinion of Muhammad Shawki, head of the caucus team in the House of Representatives, about the issue and whether his team had taken a clear position on it, but he did not answer. However, one of the representatives of the first team in the House of Representatives suggested that the vote would leave “a free choice for the representatives of the team to recommend whomever they want.”

In turn, Rachid Hamouni, head of the Progress and Socialism Team in the House of Representatives, expressed his hope that the movement team and the socialist team would reach a “consensual solution” to chair the Justice, Legislation and Human Rights Committee, anticipating that there is still time for the two teams to reach a solution that satisfies them.

In a statement to Hespress, Hamouni ruled out that this issue would affect “the coordination taking place between the opposition groups in the House of Representatives,” downplaying the dispute occurring between the two groups over the aforementioned committee, and refusing to express clearly which candidate the “Al-Kitab” team will support if resorting to Vote to resolve the issue, and he said: “We have not yet reached the vote, and every incident has its own story,” as he put it.
