The European Commission and the head of EU diplomacy, Josep Borrell, presented the first-ever defense-industrial strategy at EU level and proposed measures to strengthen the European defense industry. “RIA Novosti” informs about this, citing the statement of Margret Vestager, Executive Vice President of the EC.
“Today we adopt the European Defense-Industrial Strategy and propose a European Defense Industry Plan. We do this in order to respond to changes in the European security paradigm. Our defense spending is directed to too many different weapon systems, which are mostly bought outside the borders of the EU,” he said at a press conference in Brussels.
According to him, the joint investments of the member states and pan-European in the defense industry will allow to move from the mode of response to the crisis to the mode of structural defense preparedness.
