“The Empress” causes a sensation in Mexico City

MEXICO CITY (apro).- The locomotive “La Emperatriz 2816”, from the Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC) company, arrived in Mexico City after leaving Calgary, Canada, 44 days ago.

The steam engine stopped in the track area of Río San Joaquín Avenue and Ferrocarril de Cuernavaca Street, where hundreds of capital residents were already waiting for it, who, excited, lined up to await its arrival and get a photograph of the historic locomotive.

The company’s official website had the information that the old passenger and cargo train would arrive in the Mexican capital at noon on June 7 and would remain at the site for 2 hours.

Various media reported the presence of citizens who lined up hours before the arrival of “The Empress” to admire this piece with 94 years of history.

Attendees were able to observe it and take photographs from a distance, since the company specified that it is not possible to enter the interior of 2816.

In a tragic event, while passing through Hidalgo, a woman wanted to take a selfie with the locomotive, however, the train hit her on the head and she died instantly.

The locomotive will return to Canada after having traveled through the 3 countries of North America: Canada, the United States and Mexico.
