Benghazi, January 19, 2024 (Al-Anbaa Libya) – Yesterday, Thursday, the qualifiers for the eastern region of athletics for people with visual impairment began in the city’s sports halls, under the supervision of the Benghazi Sub-Union for Sports for Persons with Disabilities, and in the presence of the President of the Benghazi Sub-Union for People with Disabilities, “Abdul Rahim Al-Zawi,” and the participation of clubs. Al-Manara, the Blind Association, and Al-Irada for the youth and adult categories, in preparation for the Libyan Athletics Championships, which will be held in the coming days in the city of Benghazi.
The Vice President of the Supreme Technical Committee for Sports for the Blind, Salem Ashour Al-Zawi, stated that these qualifiers come within the framework of preparations for the Libyan Championship, which will be held on January 27 in the city of Benghazi.
“Al-Zawi” explained that the qualifiers were held for three regions, and on the principles and controls of the game of athletics, noting that the last period was filtered for the western and southern regions, and today for the eastern region, with the participation of five athletes from the Blind Association, two from the Al-Irada Club, and four from the “Al-Manara” Club. Indicating that the level was excellent, after an absence of more than ten years for this game.
Al-Zawi concluded his talk about the results, which were as follows: first place was the Blind Association, and second place was shared equally between the Al-Irada and Al-Manara Clubs.
Al-Irada Club coach Ali Al-Obaidi said that the competition was strong among the athletes, explaining that some athletes participated with weights according to their ages, and the club’s participation was numbered by two athletes who achieved advanced levels. (Libyan News Benghazi) Mb/Sh.
