Tomato prices have declined significantly in the wholesale market of vegetables and fruits immediately after Eid al -Adha, which was reflected in the price of sale in installments in the neighborhoods.
Professionals in the wholesale market for vegetables and fruits in Casablanca recorded that the price of tomatoes in bulk declined significantly, as during the past two weeks it reached eight dirhams per kilogram, while today it ranges between two dirhams and four dirhams for the best quality.
Professionals in the sector expected that this vital material will know more during the coming weeks, with the increase in high temperature, as well as the diversity of areas provided to the markets with tomatoes.
Abdel Kabir Maiden, Secretary General of the Association of Wholesale Market for Vegetables and Fruits, explained that the reason for this decline is due to the diversity of the areas provided to the markets in them.
In his statement to the electronic newspaper Hespress, Maaiden highlighted that during the past months, the Souss region was the main provider of national markets with tomatoes, which made the demand out of supply, and thus led to high prices.
He continued, saying: “Since the end of May and the beginning of June, different areas began to provide the national market with tomatoes, such as Skhirat, Al -Walidia, Al -Jadida and Al -Jaddaba in Muhammadiyah, and therefore we became in front of a offer that exceeds demand, which caused the decline in prices.”
He pointed out that the tomato product from the Souss region decreases during this period of the year, before adding that “the presence of other regions produces this material contributes to its provision in the national market, and thus this leads to a decline in prices, which were significantly high before this period.”
The actors in the field emphasized that a group of vegetables will know in this period of the year a decline in prices, which will reduce the impact of high prices for citizens, whose purchasing power was affected by the increases at the price.
