The deadline for states to begin issuing new ID cards is 11/11
The deadline for states to start issuing the new national identity card is next week.
Doctor André Batista came to bring his twin children Júlia and Pedro, aged 11, to prepare the new document.
“Theirs is old, an old photo. Since they are children, the face has changed a lot, the handwriting and everything has changed, so we thought it was important to update the wallet,” she says.
To obtain the national identity card it is necessary to present your birth or marriage certificate in physical or digital format at the service points present in the national territory.
For children up to 11 years old, such as twins, the validity is 5 years. From 12 to 59 years the duration is 10 years. For those over 60 the validity is unlimited.
The national identity card will gradually replace the identity card. The first copy of the paper and digital document is free. The new model has more safety features and a single serial number valid throughout the country: the CPF.
The CPF was adopted because, according to the government, it is the only number that allows citizens to be identified in public service databases.
A QR Code allows you to verify authenticity and find out if the document has been stolen or lost. A field has been created if the person wishes to use their social name. In the digital version, other documents can be included, such as a national driving license, voter ID, military certificate and professional card.

If the person loses the document or changes state, for example, and needs to get a driving license, the number will no longer change.
“Since it is now a national document, it will be difficult for many people who want to create an identity in the state and in another state to falsify it. Now, with the issue of biometrics, it will be much more difficult to get around it,” says delegate Danielle Aguiar Carvalho.
The document was announced in 2022. So far, according to the Ministry of Management and Innovation, 17 states, in addition to the Federal District, are releasing the document. Nearly 3 million have been issued so far.
Financial analyst Otávio de Andrade started the year with a new identity.
“With a single document number, a person no longer has the opportunity to defraud. If, for example, you go to a police station and file a report for loss or theft, your document will be blocked there. I feel more confident,” she says.
