The work of 598 km Haorraksha Dam at the cost of Tk 130 crore for Haor Dhanraksha in Sunamganj was not completed on schedule. So far the construction of Haor Dam has been completed in 86 parts. The second phase has been extended by another 7 days to complete 100% of the work.
Executive Engineer of Sunamganj Water Development Board, Mamun Hawladar told this information to Jago News on Saturday (March 2).
He said that due to continuous rains for the past few days, the dam construction work was stopped. As a result, the dam work could not be completed on time. However, the second term has been extended for another 7 days to complete the work.
According to the information of the Water Development Board, the work of 591 km dam in 733 sections at a cost of Tk 130 crore in 12 upazilas of Sunamganj started from December 15. That work was supposed to be completed on February 28. But as the work was not completed in the scheduled time, the time was extended by another 7 days.
Meanwhile, 10 lakh farmers of Sunamganj are worried because the work of Haor Dam has not been completed on time.
They say that no year the Water Development Board can complete the dam work on time. As a result, the golden paddy is lost in the water of the hill.
Sunai Mia, a farmer of Karchar Haor, told Jago News that I planted Boishakhi paddy in Haor with many dreams. But I am worried about taking that rice home.
Shanir Haor farmer Ravi Mia told Jago News that Haor farmers have to worry about planting paddy every year. The dam work is not completed in any given year. I demand to finish the dam work soon.
Mohammad Rashed Iqbal Chowdhury, Deputy Commissioner of Sunamganj and President of the Dam Monitoring Committee, told Jago News that efforts are being made to finish the dam work quickly. Action will be taken if someone has committed irregularities in the construction of the dam.
