The Czechs understood. Anyone who purchased an expensive heat pump will pay more for electricity. The people rebel

It already feels like we live in a cat house. How else to explain the completely absurd situation that has now appeared in all its splendor. In recent years, Czechs have been motivated and persuaded in various ways to purchase an economical source for heating their homes, in particular a heat pump. Everything became even stronger last year, when it became clear that there could also be problems with the supply or prices of gas, which until now had mainly heated family homes.

They will pay more than anyone

In the case of the heat pump the reasoning was simple. The rather high acquisition costs had to be recovered over time through savings in energy consumption itself. This is because it is a very efficient heating source that does not consume much. Of course, everything would work if electricity prices remained the same or similar for everyone.

But this did not happen. As experts have shown with numerous examples, starting from the new year it will be those who have installed a heat pump who will pay the most for electricity. This is due to the Office of Energy Regulatory’s decision to increase the regulated component of electricity by 70%.

However, this component constitutes a different part of the final price for different tariffs. For most households with older heating methods, today it is about a quarter. But it is precisely the tariffs intended for heat pumps where this component constitutes the largest share.

This is the D57d distribution tariff, where most electricity providers will increase the regulated component by more than one hundred percent. As for the dominant supplier ČEZ, also paradoxically state-owned, it will be present at 143%. People then pay an additional 250 crowns for each megawatt-hour of electricity withdrawn.

It stopped working completely

However, this is not all. The largest increase in circuit breaker payment occurs in heat pump rates. This is an increase of 15%, while in other cases it is an average of around 2%.

When I saw the new rates I thought it was nonsense. That someone wants to betray me. So I called ČEZ, where they confirmed everything with icy calm,” says Mr. Aleš Doležal, who last year paid more than 500,000 crowns for the heat pump and its installation, even taking into account the subsidy.

But now it’s over. “I did the math and normally at today’s prices it would be better to heat with an old gas boiler. But I can’t do that because it’s prohibited under the terms of the grant. I should return it” said Doležal, a very dissatisfied citizen. He lives in an older house, in which the advantage of a heat pump is not clear. However, with the new electricity prices, this is clearly disadvantageous.

So if we summarize, we will find that people here have been screwed big time. Many have succumbed to the belief that in the future they will not be able to do without a heat pump, so they have invested considerable sums. At a minimum, they would have to save energy, so that the investment would be returned to them in about 10-15 years. But now they find that using this heating source will be even more expensive than with a regular gas boiler. They will do it twice.
