The “Cuban Amy Winehouse” is fired from the bar where she worked

MIAMI, United States. – The young Lisandra Rodríguez, known on social networks as the “Cuban Amy Winehouse,” was fired this Tuesday from the Escabeche bar (Old Havana), where she worked as a waitress, for appearing in independent media during the last week.

“I want to give everyone the news that I no longer work at the bar where I was. I am very sorry for this but I did not make the decision,” the young woman wrote on her Facebook profile. “They fired me from work for appearing in the media CubanoSomos, CiberCuba Noticias, Alain Paparazzi Cubano, CubaAlerts, Periódico Cubano, among other pages,” she said.

Rodríguez confirmed to CubaNet who had been fired on Tuesday morning. “I was working without papers, and since all the publications said that I was a waitress at the Obispo y Villegas bar, my boss’s managers found out and asked who I was,” she said. “I knew that [el despido] It was going to happen sooner or later,” he added.

The 24-year-old, mother of a four-year-old child, also declared: “I don’t want to work there anymore. “That is a State facility and I didn’t even want to work for the State, but I have a son to support and a mother to help, who is sick.”

The Escabeche bar belongs to the state-owned Recreation and Tourism Company (Recreatur) of Havana, which reopened it in 2021 with cafeteria, breakfast and restaurant service.

This Monday, the “Cuban Amy Winehouse” offered an interview to CubaNet in which he referred to his sympathy for the British singer’s music and the attention he has generated due to his resemblance to the artist.

Rodríguez said that, as a teenager, he began listening to the British singer’s music, but he did not notice his resemblance to the artist until people began to notice it.

“Since I was 11 years old everyone tells me that I look like Amy Winehouse. I didn’t know who she was, but I listened to her music. I didn’t even know her name, but everyone told me that I was identical to her,” she said.

Upon perceiving his resemblance to the interpreter of Back to Blackdecided to pay his own tribute to the singer who died in 2011 at the age of 27.

“Cuban Amy” does not plan to enter the art world, although she sings in her free time to let off steam, she explained.

“I feel very identified with his music. I haven’t thought about singing professionally because I only do it to let off steam. I don’t know how to express myself very well, but everything I have inside I get out by singing to relax. Being a singer or being famous has never crossed my mind,” she said.

“The only thing I want is to pay tribute to Amy, I’m not looking for anything else,” he concluded.
