SANTA MARÍA DEL RÍO, Mexico.- Cuban experts agreed that the crisis that permeates Cuba is systemic and affects all areas, mainly access to education, health, sports and culture.
The previous ones, considered as “pillars” and “social conquests” of the Cuban revolution – which established that they should be universal and free – are increasingly questioned, as sociologists and analysts confirmed to the agency. EFE.
Elaine Acosta, a Cuban sociologist, argued that access to education, healthcare and culture requires structural reforms and “in no way” can they be recovered quickly.
In his opinion, he told the media, “universal services remain a discourse,” given the government’s withdrawal from those areas.
Likewise, he referred to a “commercialization” of education and health, mainly in the area of care.
For her part, social researcher Ailynn Torres commented that Cuba’s “comprehensive crisis” is “very notable,” referring to access to health, education and culture.
It is not temporary
It is not a temporary process, he explained, but rather a situation that has been brewing for 30 years, when Cuba, faced with the fall of the socialist bloc, lost the help of its main allies.
The researchers assure that, in addition, Raúl Castro’s reforms to cut expenses, the pandemic and the economic measures of recent years worsened the situation.
