CHILPANCINGO, Gro; (apro) .- At the door of her home and in the heart of Tixtla, councilor Esmeralda Garzón Campos was shot to death, five days after the elections.
The crime, according to police reports, was perpetrated at 1:30 p.m. this Friday, June 7, when the councilor was leaving her home and was going to board her vehicle.
His home is located in the center of the city, behind the Ignacio Manuel Altamirano primary school.
The Guerrero Prosecutor’s Office confirmed the fact briefly.
In a statement, it reported that it initiated an investigation file against those responsible for the crime of homicide qualified to the detriment of Esmeralda N that occurred in the municipality of Tixtla.
He added that agents from the Ministerial Investigative Police (PIM) and the Expert Services went to the scene to begin the investigation to obtain the necessary evidence to clarify the crime.
And he assured that an operation was deployed to find the person or persons responsible.
Esmeralda Garzón Campos was nominated for the position of councilor by the PRI and starting in April she joined the campaign of Morena’s local and federal candidates.
His mother is the former federal and local representative of the PRI, Violeta Campos Astudillo, who openly supported the campaign of the now senator-elect for Morena, Beatriz Mojica Morga.
His father was the former mayor of Chilpancingo, Ausencio Garzón Chávez.
The late councilor was also the niece of former governor Héctor Astudillo Flores and Saúl Nava Astudillo, former candidate for mayor of Tixtla, murdered in a direct armed attack on January 5, 2022.
In the June 2 election, the candidates of the coalition made up of the PRI, PRD and PAN, Alberto Michi Campos and Jorge Iván Ortega, son of legislator Bernardo Ortega, were winners in the City Council and in the local council of the local district 24 of Tixtla. Jiménez, brother of the alleged leaders of the Los Ardillos criminal group, and who on different occasions has distanced himself from them.
The municipal government of Tixtla, chaired by Moisés Antonio García Cabañas, mourned the loss of his partner and friend, councilor, Dr. Esmeralda Garzón.
