The government has decided to further increase the cost of operation support of the Bangladesh Electronic Passport (e-passport) and automatic border control management introduction project. Through this, the cost of this project increased three times. Expenditure increased by more than 170 crore rupees or 5.19 percent in three phases.
The Cabinet Committee on Government Procurement has given approval to increase the cost of the project by 45 crore 37 lakh 73 thousand 970 taka in the third phase. Through this, the cost of the project has increased to 3 thousand 512 crore 36 lakh 77 thousand 970 taka.
This suggestion was given in the meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Government Procurement held on Monday (May 27) under the chairmanship of Finance Minister Abul Hasan Mahmud Ali. At the end of the meeting, the Secretary of Coordination and Reform of the Cabinet Department. Mahmudul Hossain Khan told this information to reporters.
The Secretary said that in view of the proposal of the Department of Security Services, the Cabinet Committee on Government Procurement has approved the third variation of operation support of the project titled ‘Introduction of e-passport and automatic border control management in Bangladesh’.
Regarding the third variation, 46 lakh 50 thousand euro, 45 crore 37 lakh 73 thousand 970 taka in Bangladeshi currency have been approved. The revised contract price of the project stands at 3 thousand 512 crores 36 lakh 77 thousand 970 taka.
It is known that the original contract price of the project was 3 thousand 338 crore 93 lakh 40 thousand 390 taka. In the first phase, the expenditure was increased to 40 lakh 92 thousand 438 euros. 39 crore 93 lakh 63 thousand 836 Taka in Bangladesh currency. Then, in the second phase, the cost of the project was increased by another 90 lakh 30 thousand euros or 88 crore 11 lakh 99 thousand 774 taka in Bangladeshi currency. Now in the third phase, by increasing the expenditure by 45 crore 37 lakh 73 thousand 970 taka, the total cost of the project has increased to 173 kt 43 lakh 37 thousand 580 taka.
