The convoy carrying the coffin of the Vice President of Malawi crashed into a crowd, killing four people

The motorcade carrying the coffin of Malawi Vice President Saulos Chilima unfortunately crashed into a crowd, an incident that killed four people and injured 12 others.

According to Malawi Voice, on June 16, a motorcade carrying the coffin of Vice President Saulos Chilima, who died in a recent plane crash, suddenly crashed into a crowd in Ntcheu village, central Malawi.

Local police said that the convoy carrying Mr. Chilima’s coffin was on its way to Nsipe village (Mr. Chilima’s hometown) to prepare for the funeral when it had an accident. A large number of people gathered on the road and asked the convoy to stop to see Mr. Chilima’s coffin, which led to an unexpected incident.

“The accident killed 4 people, including a pregnant woman. 12 other people were injured and are being treated at the hospital,” Malawi police announced.

Mr. Felix Njawala, representative of Mr. Chilima’s UTM party, called for calm within the party. “Mr. Chilima was a man of peace, we must remember him in the same way,” Mr. Njawala said.

Local media said that the above incident significantly affected Mr. Chilima’s funeral, but senior officials of UTM guaranteed to organize a peaceful ceremony for the late Vice President.

On June 10, the plane carrying Mr. Chilima and nine other people went missing after taking off from the capital Lilongwe. On June 11, authorities found the body of the crashed plane in the Chikangawa mountains, northern Malawi. Mr. Chilima and everyone on the plane died. The President of Malawi later declared national mourning for the victims.
