In the midst of the debate about the future of the Frente Amplio, a group of militants from various spaces of Social Convergence have raised their voices in dissent. Under the name of Command “Against” the Fusion of the Frente Amplio, this group expresses its firm and well-founded opposition to the merger proposal that is being discussed within the Chilean progressive movement.
In a public statement, the members of this command argue that the merger of the Frente Amplio could put at risk the diversity and plurality that have characterized the movement since its beginnings. They warn about the lack of a participatory and democratic process in decision-making, which has generated distrust and discomfort among the militancy.

For more and better unity, a calm fusion
Social Convergence was born with the conviction of achieving a socialist, democratic, libertarian and feminist society. Those are the founding principles that
They motivated us to unite and currently inspire us in our different political practices: in the Government, on the social fronts and in the territories.
Therefore, from its beginnings, our party never conceived of itself as an instrumental party, serving exclusively elections. Therefore, although we value the
electoral competitions, to dispute the spaces of political power and avoid the advances of the right, we believe that this is not the only thing that inspires us, nor should it mark the path to follow; It is rather a consequence of adhering with conviction to what defines us as a party, to what gives us meaning and belonging.
Our just cause, to which we ascribe as the CS Command of the Option Against the Fusion, is the conviction that our militants wake up every day convinced that
The ideals that guide our actions are those that represent them and our citizens, built in a reflective manner and in a collective space, which cares and
promotes debate and deliberation and where diversity is not silenced to achieve set objectives, on a path where the urgent has forgotten the important: where the
bases are always present and are valued in a binding manner. In fact, that vision has not been present in the current merger. The militancy of Convergencia Social and the Democratic Revolution share a common ideology and we have walked together to make Chile a more egalitarian society. However, we have legitimate differences in our way of understanding the principles, putting them into practice and transforming them into public policies. For this reason, an ideological and programmatic debate of the FA militancy, so necessary in our times, that establishes a roadmap and objectives, has been completely outside of this unification process, thereby leaving out the various concerns and visions of the grassroots militancy.
When there is a purpose as important as the construction of a strengthened left that works at the disposal of citizens, time works for the purpose;
It is not the accelerated metric that makes us run and forget the fundamentals. It is these reasons that inspire us to call on all the militancy of the Front
Broadly, to work for the programmatic and ideological unity of our sector, and to position ourselves against any proposal for instrumental unity. Because we want to be better and more united, let’s carry out a calm fusion process.
