The coach of the Red Lions national team reduces the selections for the qualifying tournament, 1 player has yet to be removed

Goalkeeper Simon Vandenbroucke and forwards Nicolas de Kerpel and Cédric Charlier were left out of the 22-player selection that won the Five Nations Tournament in Valencia earlier this month and therefore also had a chance of qualifying for the Games.

As some players are injured, 19 names have been called up for now instead of 18. One player will be removed from the list before leaving for Valencia next Sunday.

Tom Boon, absent from the European Championship selections last summer, is one of the 19 players selected.

The Red Lions (FIH 2), reigning Olympic champions, will play in the group stage of the Valencia qualification tournament against Ireland (FIH 13), Japan (FIH 15) and Ukraine (FIH 29).

The top two in each group will qualify for the semi-finals of the qualifying tournament. The two finalists will be able to book tickets to Paris, just like the winner of the consolation final.

In addition to host country France, the Netherlands, Australia, Argentina, South Africa and India are already guaranteed to participate in the men’s Olympic hockey tournament thanks to victory in their continental championship.
