The 20 most polluted regions of Turkey have been announced. The list also includes cities from the earthquake region.
Publika.az reports that Greenpeace has analyzed “Particulate Matter (PM) 10” data obtained during 2023 from stations in the Akdeniz national air quality monitoring network. Within this framework, 20 regions with the most polluted air in Turkey have been identified.
Iskenderun (Hatay) is the first, Kadıköy-Göztepe (Istanbul) is the second, Iğdır is the third, and Denizli is the last.
According to the World Health Organization, air pollution kills 13 people every minute worldwide. Greenpeace Climate and Energy Specialist Gökhan Ersoy noted that tobacco, overweight, high blood pressure and air pollution are among the risks that cause death in Turkey.
This year, three different cities from the earthquake region are on the list, and Hatay and Osmaniye are among the 10 most polluted regions for the first time due to the additional pollution caused by the debris removal works.
