The chairman of AQTA inspected flour mills and bread production enterprises – 2024-03-09 01:20:24

On February 24, 2023, the chairman of the Food Safety Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Goshgar Tahmezli, inspected the flour mill and bread production facilities operating in Baku.

Publika.az informs that the purpose of the event was the implementation of the HACCP system in flour mills and bread production enterprises in connection with the implementation of the Law “On Food Safety”, as well as the status of the implementation of the pilot project implemented in the direction of iron enrichment of flour, as well as the on-site assessment of related infrastructure opportunities.

It is known that providing the population with food products with high nutritional value is important in order to organize a healthy diet. At the same time, micronutrient deficiency caused by unbalanced nutrition causes many diseases.

Currently, in order to prevent these diseases, enrichment of food products with various micronutrients is mandatory in many countries of the world as an effective preventive measure.

According to the Law of the Republic of Azerbaijan “On Iodization of Salt for the Purpose of Mass Prevention of Iodine Deficiency Diseases”, which came into force on January 1, 2003, iodization of salt is defined as a mandatory requirement.

For your information, we inform you that according to the reports of the World Health Organization, the percentage of iron deficiency and anemia among women, including pregnant women, in Azerbaijan is much higher. In order to solve this problem, the process of enriching flour with iron is the most effective means of preventing anemia. Due to the fact that flour occupies a very large place in people’s diet, for many years in more than 80 countries, it has been compulsory to enrich it with various nutrients, of which iron enrichment is carried out in more than 30 countries.

It should be recalled that as a result of the meeting held with flour and bread producers under the leadership of the Agency chairman on February 9 of last year, it was planned to carry out monitoring of the Agency’s employees to flour mills and bread production enterprises operating in the territory of the country, and measures in this direction are currently being continued.

It should be noted that in connection with the implementation of the Law “On Food Safety”, in addition to the implementation of the HACCP system in flour mills and bread production enterprises, as well as the implementation of the pilot project for the enrichment of flour with iron, it is planned to further expand the scope of work in this direction and strengthen control measures in this area.
