The chains have trained their customers, they don’t sell anything without an “event”, readers write

From the discussion on the article on the record share of sales of discounted goods, the Seznam Zpráv editorial team has selected the most interesting opinions for the Readers’ Forum.

Viktor Náprstek: Governments cannot dictate prices to producers, processors or traders. They can only affect taxes, which may not be reflected in prices. When Babiš’s Kostelecké Uzeniny raises the price of sausages, Schillerová can scold Fiala for stealing from the people.

Petr Švec: This is how sellers “educate” their customers. Those who, for example, have spent some time in Germany will understand this more easily. There products in comparable +/- price ranges are offered without that key factor for the first signal system – ACTION, which is perceived by customers as “normal”, while here the situation has reached such a point that without the “brand “ACTION”. At the same time, it is not actually a discount, it is only and only the result of previous “education” of customers, the result of many years of marketing. It is the word ACTION itself that triggers purchasing behavior, not the actual price of the product.

Drahomír Stehlík: I said a long time ago that it was only a matter of time before merchants had problems selling God. It has reached such a level that overpriced goods have stopped being bought and customers no longer want to make fools of themselves.

Jaromír Svoboda: So without a “discount” we buy brutally overpriced goods, while with a discount we “only” buy overpriced goods. See for example butter: in Germany it normally costs 39 CZK, with us with the “discount” it costs 43 CZK. For example, Caro costs 134 in Alberta and in the “discount” 80. In Germany the standard price is 80. So this is the “discount kingdom”.

Karel David: Keep in mind that in a market environment, an entrepreneur sells his services at the maximum price allowed by the market. Because he should never sell for less. In the summer I was in a supermarket in the district town, where carrots and onions cost about two cents. 100 meters away there was such an unusable courtyard. In my opinion the management costs are zero zero nothing, some private individuals sold fruit/vegetables there. And the prices? Basically the same as the supermarket. As long as competition doesn’t drive prices down in supermarkets, nothing will change.

Karel Klíma: It’s not about losing weight. In short, it fits perfectly with the chain’s policy. They lure him towards items that are “regularly” priced but marked “on sale” with the expectation that while he is there, some of the very expensive items will also end up in his cart, all without the “discount” sign. Although the Czech Republic is characterized as “getting cut”, a significant part of the population has reduced purchases or gone abroad. Well, “action” is exactly the trick the chains use to make him an obedient lamb again. The exception is the “hard natures”, who do not give in to temptation and in every single shop (they go around five a day) they only buy what is marked as “discount”, so it is at the “normal” price, or only slightly Dear. They don’t even touch other goods. But there are probably a minority of them.

Tomáš Zámečník: The discounted goods are still at the price at which the trader makes a profit. So “regular priced” products are antichristically overpriced.

Miroslav Šilhavý: As long as unemployment is almost zero, the government has no way to stimulate the economy. This would only increase the pressure on employees and thus the economic performance of companies would decrease again. This has been piled up, neglected and even placed under the boiler for a good ten years. Now it has no direct solution. The biggest risk is that companies will gradually move their operations to cheaper countries, resulting in higher unemployment. This could happen within a few years. The Czech economy was on steroids, overheated. Now we have abs and knock with colds.
