The caravans of Greek pilgrims to the Holy Land

On April 20, 1959, a few days before Easter, the Hellenic Royal Gendarmerie sends the Rodopi Prefecture a certificate marked “confidential”. “Telloglou Makrina, born in Asia Minor in 1891 and residing in Komotini, may travel to Jordan due to social considerations,” reads the Security Office document. Pinned together with the certificate of legality, a few more pages, handwritten or printed on a typewriter from the last century, outline a moving course against the background of human faith: the caravans of Greek pilgrims to the Holy Land through the General Archives of the State.
