The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine allocated another 392 million dollars for the acquisition of drones. As “TASS” informs, Prime Minister Denis Shmigal announced this.
The government has previously allocated more than $1 billion to purchase drones. “With the funds allocated today, 300,000 drones will be provided to our security and defense forces,” Shmigal said.
According to him, the funds will be transferred to the administration of the Special State Communications Agency, which deals with the purchase of drones.
Back in December 2023, Maria Berlinskaya, the head of Ukraine’s Air Intelligence Support Center, said that the armed forces would be forced to retreat if the authorities did not find a way to assemble offensive drones in the country. He noted that the lion’s share of Ukrainian equipment is being destroyed by Russian attack drones, the production of which is actively developing.
In March of this year, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Sirsky, also announced the crucial role of attack drones and electronic warfare systems in combat operations. Although Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has promised to ensure the production of 1 million drones by 2024, the military has complained of a shortage of drones, and the Ministry of Digital Transformation has suggested that Ukrainians buy parts themselves and assemble drones at home.
