The diving team of the fire service recovered the body of a young man after he went missing in the Padma river in Kushtia’s Kumarkhali for about 7 hours.
The body was recovered from Shilaidah Kheyaghat area of Shilaidah Union of Upazila at around 7 pm on Thursday (June 20).
Later, the naval police prepared a report on the condition of the body. The name of the deceased young man. Rafi Mallil (17). He is the son of Abu Daud Mallick of Miapara area of Sadar Upazila of Gopalganj district.
Earlier, he fell into the river and drowned while boarding a boat at Shilaidah Kheyaghat around 12 noon. Fire service and relatives said that due to the job, the rabbi’s father lives in a rented house in Pabna with his family. On Thursday, Rafi boarded a train from Gopalganj to Kumarkhali railway station to go to the rented house. Then Shilaidah came to Kheyaghat and while boarding the boat fell into the water and drowned.
Later local people informed the Kumarkhali fire service after not finding them. On receiving the information, the diving team of the fire service recovered the body of the rabbi about 20 meters from the spot around 7 pm.
Mother Subarna Begum said that she was going to Pabna with her son who was working. On the way he came to Shilaidahghat and went to the washroom. He came from the washroom and saw that his son was gone.
Officer in charge of Kumarkhali Fire Service Station. Mahir Uddin said that Rabbi fell into the river while getting on the boat and drowned. On receiving the information, they launched a rescue operation and around 7 pm the body was recovered and handed over to the Naval Police.
