MEXICO CITY (apro).- “Human beings are very screwed, basically, and have been and will continue to be screwed because they are very stupid,” began Scottish actor Brian Cox on Rich Leigh’s podcast, “The Starting Line.” , in which he talked about various topics, such as religion, politics, his work as an actor and his mother.
Cox, who is a classically trained Shakespearean actor, has had a long career in Hollywood, in films such as “Braveheart,” “The Hoop,” the “Bourne” saga and “Fantastic Mr. Fox,” as well as the series “ Succession”, from HBO, among others.
The actor’s experiences in film and theater have allowed him to formulate a particular notion about life, politics, humanity and his actions.
“That’s the thing about humanity, it’s so profoundly stupid. “If you look at Gaza, you look at what is happening there, you look at the atrocity that is happening there, and it will never go away, because of belief systems that do not serve, do not serve equanimity,” said the Scot.
The interpreter of Logan Roy in “Succession” pointed to the “notion of God” as what prevents people from looking inside themselves, so these beliefs lead humanity to “all kinds of horrors, like the Holocaust, what is happening in Ukraine and Palestine.”
“The idea that there is a god who takes care of us all; There is no such thing,” he declared, pointing out that humanity should constantly save itself and not wait for the end of the road.
For Cox, theater is a mirror for humanity to see themselves and reflect on their actions and the world they have created. “Shakespeare calls it holding up a mirror to nature,” she noted, quoting Hamlet.
The actor also spoke about his political positions, pointing out that England was a “pathetic” country and said that the American president, Joe Biden, seemed to him “a good man”; Furthermore, Cox called himself a socialist and insisted that humanity should be a matriarchy.
“We have created that idea of God and we have created it as an issue of control and it is also a patriarchal issue which is exactly where it started and it is essentially patriarchal. “We haven’t given enough leeway to matriarchy and I think you know we need to move towards matriarchy.”
Rich Leigh asked her how we could be a more matriarchal society, to which Cox responded that women must be honored and given their place, but there is resistance to this due to “religious propaganda.”
“We resist that because we all know they are Adam and Eve. I mean, propaganda goes back in time. The Bible is one of the worst books for me, from my point of view because it begins with the idea that Adam’s rib; All they know is that this woman was created from Adam’s rib and they will believe it, because they are stupid.”
